Soft Tissue Therapy
Much more than just a massage. What is Soft Tissue Therapy?
Soft Tissue Therapy uses a person centred approach to the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of minor and chronic musculoskeletal pain and injury.
It does this in a way that can help people from all walks of life, suffering with the widest range of musculoskeletal problems, caused by any of life’s stresses. We don’t just treat “injuries”, we treat “people” with injuries because everyone is different and should be treated as an individual person, not just an injury. Soft Tissue Therapy is a blend of sports and deep tissue massage plus a variety of advanced soft tissue techniques.
Is Soft Tissue Therapy Right for Me?
Suitable for anyone looking for relief from persistent musculoskeletal pain, injuries or issues experienced during daily life.
Soft Tissue Therapy involves much more than just a massage and is suited to those who would like to try to get to the root cause (if not obvious) of their issue and are willing to follow rehabilitation advice to get the most out of the treatment given.
Soft Tissue Therapy is able to effectively treat an extensive range of conditions including, but not limited to, whiplash, repetitive strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, postural problems and sciatica, sports injury and recovery from falls, muscle tension and spasms.

What are the Benefits of Soft Tissue Therapy?
Soft Tissue Therapy helps to reduce pain and discomfort, restores normal function and therefore makes you more able to deal with the demands placed on us during daily life. It aims to not only treat the symptoms you feel but work to resolve them and help prevent reoccurrences.
The benefits aren’t just muscle and pain-related, it boosts endorphins levels (feel good hormones) and if we are left feeling physically improved our mental health automatically benefits.

What can I Expect During a Treatment?
1. Assessment 2. Treatment 3. Advice regarding how to self manage the condition.
Depending on the reason for your visit, your first session will begin with a chat about what issues you’re currently experiencing followed by a postural assessment and /or an injury assessment. I may then test one or more of your joints to check their range of movement and if necessary perform one or two special tests which can help me draw some conclusions as to which muscles, tendons or ligaments may be causing issues.
This will be followed by treatment which will include massage and a combination of advanced techniques (listed below). After treatment I may advise on other things you can do at home to help the situation such as strengthening exercise, stretches, heat & ice application etc.
I will use my advanced knowledge of the musculoskeletal system to attempt to work out which structures could be causing the problem. I will then treat those areas and suggest a bespoke rehabilitation plan to help resolve it. You may need more than one session but my aim will be to help restore normal function as soon as possible and give some advice on how to self manage the condition. I would normally expect to see decent improvements within a few sessions. In addition to massage techniques, I will use a variety of advanced techniques including:
– Neuro Muscular Technique
– Myofascial Release
– Soft Tissue Release
– Muscle Energy Technique
– Mobilisation Techniques
– Dry Cupping Therapy
– Instrument-assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation
– Dry Needling (similar to acupuncture).
I may also use an Audiosonic machine which uses sound waves to penetrate the tissues to slowly warm and help relax the area while stimulating the proteins within to encourage healing.
During treatment most people do experience some discomfort.. that’s to be expected when treating tight / painful or injured areas. It’s important to tell your therapist which areas are painful and if the soreness becomes too much.I will only work within an individual’s pain tolerances and can easily adapt to suit.
You should not book/attend if you have cold/flu like symptoms, a fever or contagious skin infection or have been pregnant for less than 13 weeks.
Treatments can be adapted to avoid an injury/cuts or bruises but with some medical conditions, including cancer and heart problems, it’s always a good idea to get approval from you GP first.
